7 Common Mistakes That Make Lyric Videos Look Amateur
We've reviewed hundreds of lyric videos artists made themselves or bought cheap before coming to us. The same seven mistakes appear over and over — and every one of them is avoidable.
Mistakes 1–3: The readability killers
If viewers can't read the lyrics comfortably, nothing else matters.
- 1. Late or early sync. Text appearing even half a second off the vocal breaks immersion instantly. Sync to the vocal delivery, not the beat grid.
- 2. Unreadable fonts. Thin scripts over busy footage, low contrast, tiny sizes. Test readability on a phone screen — that's where most views happen.
- 3. Too much text at once. Showing a whole verse forces skimming. One or two lines at a time, timed to the vocal, keeps viewers locked in.
Mistakes 4–5: The style killers
These are the tells that a video was made from a template.
- 4. Over-animation. When every word bounces, spins and explodes, nothing has impact. Restraint plus one signature motion idea reads as premium.
- 5. Ignoring the cover art. A video whose colors and typography clash with the single artwork feels off-brand. The release should look like one campaign.
Mistakes 6–7: The technical killers
Fixable in settings, fatal if ignored.
- 6. Wrong export settings. 720p uploads, stretched aspect ratios, or heavy compression artifacts undermine an otherwise good video. Master at 1080p minimum — ideally 4K.
- 7. No vertical version. Skipping the 9:16 cut means skipping TikTok, Reels and Shorts — where lyric content performs best in 2026.
The pattern behind all seven
Every mistake comes from treating the lyric video as an afterthought instead of a designed product. Professionals plan sync, typography, brand consistency and platform exports before touching the timeline. That planning is most of what you're paying for when you hire a studio — the software is the easy part.
